Spike, that's what the OP was worried about. S/He was worried about whether reporting trade channel-hopping would be discplined on him, rather then the spammer.

Edit: Nightstalker, I always go after the account buyer/sellers, that's why I want a category specifically for EULA Violations, spamming just doesn't cut it

yes i was kinda worried that anet wasn't able to determine which channel was spammed
but i think that if alot of people were spamming local chat with trade and all would be reported would that also backfire on me for too many reporting?
i report someone from time to time and those are actually all accountbuyers or sellers

Because there is specifically a TRADING chat for when you are TRADING.

What's the point in a TRADING chat when you're not going to use that for TRADING, but LOCAL?

@Spike: If you're getting banned for "Abusing" the report feature when the option you wish to report someone for doesn't exist, I think ANet should hit themselves.

Abusing? Absolutely, and rightfully so imo. /reporting people who can't seem to get that trade is for trade chat? Especially after a warning or two, no. That's what it's there for.

Abusing would be /reporting anyone and anything for "revenge" or just because you're bored lol. Different thing from /reporting idiots who can't follow very simple rules. I mean, it's color coded and everything, can't get much simpler.

It sits there and looks pretty duh.

People should start holding conversation in Trade Chat...

Fine then, guess I can practice reverse psychology....

Trade chat is for conversational needs and local chat is for trading needs!

Abuse: to use wrongly or improperly; misuse

If you are using the system properly you are not abusing, no matter how many people you report.

Default You have to wonder though...

how lenient they are with local chat IF reported. I, myself, have been guilty of accidently hitting the local chat through the party window because I forgot to change from local to trade chat. Usually I go "oops" and then redo it in trade chat. I don't sell too often so it isn't a problem. But as an example, what if someone does it accidently once and people that are /report happy jump all over them when it was a simple mistake? I can't say that everyone that does it is a mistake, heck I can't even say that most are a mistake. With the quickness of response that I have heard about from the ban stick you do have to wonder.

I myself usually do it on repeat offenders. That way I know they're doing it purposely.

I don't think just one posting in local chat by mistake would get reported by most people. It is the constant repetitious postings that annoy people.

Double checking ftw! You just need to be more careful-that rule was implemented for a reason.

well for a small mistake and once doing that it's not a big deal
even anet will see in the chatlog you just made a small mistake and probably leave it as it is for a small mistake
but like i've seen of some guy trying to sell his claws of the broodmother in local chat and constantly spamming it well yes that guy could be suspended

Perhaps most of the conversations are juvenile, but regardless, sometimes some people may want to have a conversation with someone in an outposts, and perhaps you weren't around before the enforcement of the trading channel, but in many of the outposts, particularly Lions Arch and Kamadan, it was impossible to see anything for the streams and streams of WTS/WTB messages, to a point where most people would just have local chat turned off.

Restricting trading messages to the trading window makes perfect sense. If you're looking to buy or sell something, you can turn on the trade chat and look through all that, but otherwise you can turn it off and not have to be bothered by the thousands of messages every second.

Personally, I don't mind if I see the odd message in the wrong window, it is pretty easy to do by accident, but if someone is spamming trade messages when there's a specific section for that kind of thing, it's just inconsiderate.

Now, if only something could be done about the Guild recruitment messages.

If someone spams 4 times in less than 30 seconds, I consider it reportable for spamming... anywhere... especially in local chat.

Why should we when they can simply use the trade channel to buy/sell whatever where it belongs?

You have a chat channel and a trade channel and it really doesn't take a genius to work it out.

If you must have an explanation , which I don't believe you need , how about just plain old good manners ?

I will ask , in local , for spammers to use the trade channel but only after the 2nd or 3rd time. I sell myself and have occasionally used the wrong tab by mistake so I always give someone a mistake or 2.
After that I PM them and ask them and most stop. Occasionally I get a FU diatribe or those who just ignore it so them I do report.
